For the publishing house Col&Col, we developed the art direction, editorial design and layout of the book for the restaurant Arrea!, led by chef Edorta Lamo. This title, the first volume in the Los fuegos singulares collection, brings together more than 80 recipes and a deep look at the landscape of the Montaña Alavesa, establishing the visual and conceptual foundations that will shape the rest of the series.
From the outset, we worked with the idea of creating a gastronomic book that would be more than a container for recipes: it needed to function as an editorial object, a communication tool, and a natural extension of the restaurant’s identity and territory. We sought a precise and understated visual language, where every decision—typography, rhythm, hierarchy, spacing—brought clarity and reinforced Edorta’s narrative: a cuisine connected to landscape, seasonality, and rural craftsmanship.
The design approach relied on a careful balance between the strength of the photography and the readability of the culinary content. We conceived a flexible structure capable of organising a substantial amount of material without losing cleanliness or coherence, ensuring a clear, uninterrupted reading flow—essential in a gastronomic book where functionality and aesthetics must coexist seamlessly.
The result is a book that defines the editorial identity of the Los fuegos singulares collection and establishes a visual system designed to endure. A solid, balanced piece, deeply aware of its geographic context, where design acts as a connecting thread between cuisine, narrative and territory. A project that demonstrates how editorial design can elevate a gastronomic proposal and transform it into a coherent, tangible and meaningful experience.
